4042 was a production Metrocar built by Metro-Cammell at Washwood Heath, Birmingham.

Oddly 4042 had new door buttons and door window surrounds installed before its doors were repainted from blue with the part of the Metro Radio advertisement on that part of the unit to fully yellow to be DDA compliant at the time and LED displays fitted installed instead of all the slight modification being done at the same time.
