4023 was a production Metrocar built by Metro-Cammell at Washwood Heath, Birmingham.
Oddly when 4023 had its DDA compliance updated by having its doors repainted from green with the yellow Metro M triangle to fully yellow with the Metro M triangle to be complient DDA at the time it had the repaint, new door buttons and door window surrounds done before it received LED displays instead of all the slight modification being done at the same time also 4023 was one of the last units to have the metro M triangles on the doors due to it keeping them after having its doors repainted yellow.
In October 2012 a few Sunderland fans managed to pop the top of the front most right window out of 4023's body but this was quickly fixed.
