Metro Go
Metro Go is a planned £400 million signalling upgrade for the Tyne and Wear Metro network.[1] The planned system has been described as a "modern solid state modular system" including a "fibre network". It is expected to be operational from 2030.[2]
History
[edit | edit source]Nexus, with backing from Kim McGuinness, submitted a Strategic Outline Business Case for the signalling upgrade to the Department for Transport during late 2024, which was handed to the Government by 10 March 2025.[3] On 8 July 2025, the Department for Transport announced that the Government would fund the upgrade.[4][5][6] Nexus began public tendering for the project on 6 November 2025 with a planned procurement notice for legal services,[7] which was awarded to Addleshaw Goddard LLP on 6 May 2026.[8]
