4048 was a production Metrocar built by Metro-Cammell at Washwood Heath, Birmingham.
Odly 4048 initially had it's DDA compliance updated buy just having a small section under then door glass painted lime green but this wasn't enough and the doors were fully repainted from the advertisement to lime green and it received LED displays at the same time but strangely it didn't have new door buttons and door window surrounds installed at the same time. When this unit was in its Great North Forest advertisement it was actually green underneath the wrap but it was a slightly earthier shade of green than the Metro RGB green to fit with the nature aspect of the advertisement for the exposed panels at the bottom or panles missin the wrap.
In May 2007 an elderly lady on a mobility scooter was boarding 4048 at Brockley Whins but wasn't watching her speed and where she was going and ended up crashing through the doors on the other side and ending up on the tracks with her taking 4048's door B4 off the guide rails almost breaking it off the pole that moves the door in the process. This along with a separate incident almost a year later in April 2008 where a man on a mobility scooter fell off a platform onto the tracks resulted in mobility scooters being completely banned from the metro for a while.
