TravelShop
Nexus TravelShops, originally called Travelcentres, were Nexus-owned outlets that provided paper tickets, Pop cards, timetables, maps and local transport guides.
Locations
[edit | edit source]There was once a network of 14 TravelShops operating concurrently,[1] including those at the following locations:[2][3][4][5]

- Four Lane Ends Metro station
- Haymarket Metro station
- Monument Metro station
- Central Station Metro station
- Gateshead Interchange
- Heworth Metro station
- South Shields Metro station
- 34-36 Fowler Street, South Shields
- Park Lane Metro station
- Park Lane bus station
- 5A Holmeside, Sunderland
- Wallsend High Street
- Metrocentre bus station
- Blaydon Precinct
- 16 Mautland Square, Houghton-le-Spring
Closure
[edit | edit source]By 2020, only 6 of these remained due to customers switching to digital resources, and those remaining 6 were temporarily closed on 23 March 2020 due to coronavirus precautions. On 21 October 2020, Nexus announced plans to permanently close all their TravelShops. 17 employees who worked at the TravelShops were found alternative roles within Nexus. Nexus also began an 8-week public consultation surrounding the closure of the TravelShops, assisting people to access alternative services.[1]
