The Tyne and Wear Metro's original fleet of trains, the Metrocar, originally manufactured in the late 1970s for the new Tyne and Wear Metro system that opened on the 11th August, 1980.

There is only 66.6% of the original Metrocar fleet that have not been scrapped (disposed)

The Metrocar is being replaced with a new fleet of Stadler-built Class 555 trains.
